Our Hideous Entertainment Center

We got a free entertainment center off of Craigslist and it is/was a really, really ugly (at least for a huge piece of furniture for your living room) blue. We are in the process of scraping it right now...the problem is that all of the paint scrapers w have used are no good on corrugated wood with a thin layer of fake wood on top. We have been scraping for two weeks with screwdrivers, lame, I know. We are about half done with the scraping and have sanded several pieces, for texture. Our next jobs will be to repair it, fill in any holes, finish sanding, and prime and paint it. Hopefully our blue paint is prettier than the other one. I'll post a finished project when we are finished. My goal is October 15th. Oh, and Andy really loves to help us...

Big Boy Andy

So, Dr. Savage said we could try a big boy bed out on Andy anytime we wanted. We went home, put a mattress on the floor, removed anything he could get into, flipped the dresser around (it isn't anchored yet) and put a gate in the doorway. Here is what happened...
Night 1: I went in to check on him several times to make sure he was okay, found him on the floor several times. I moved him to the bed each time.
Night 2: I checked on him several times again (that floor can't be comfy!) miraculously, he was usually on the bed. He looked like he was kneeling (feet on floor, head on mattress) at one point !
Night 3: Andy cried and cried! I went in to snuggle him for a bit and got up when I thought he was asleep and he cried some more. He finally stopped at about 12:30 and went to sleep.
Night 4: We snuggled (and I let him crawl around on me) for about 20 minutes. I left the room when he was still awake and he just stayed in bed and went to sleep.
Night 5: We snuggled a little and then I left the room after about 5 minutes. He cried for 2 minutes, came to the gate to try to get out, and finally, got in bed and went to sleep.

I am really surprised that he is doing so well with this. He still takes naps in his crib for now, but maybe in the next few weeks we'll start transitioning him. What a great baby!

"Back to school. Back to school, to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool...."

Life is good here at Wymount. We are missing Aubrey, Jonathan, and Linnea, but they are having a great time in Italy! With the fall semester coming up we have been working hard to get organized for school. It's always nice to start school again, because we get a good schedule going and don't feel so sluggish.

Reed started school on Monday. He is taking twelve credits of computer science classes (insane!) a religion class, plus working twenty hours each week. He has two (manageable, but rough) semesters left for his undergrad work. We're so excited for him to be done! Needless to say, he will be a very busy man this semester.

We decided that I would also take classes this coming semester. I will be doing at least six, but probably twelve credits this semester, all of them online. I don't mind online classes so much, if you can get ahead of the schedule it's way less stressful! Hopefully my teachers will allow working ahead; if they do, I will try to finish before Thanksgiving! Wouldn't that be nice?!
Andy is, of course, a little monster. He gets into everything, and gets super mad when we tell him no. He is nine months old today! We have his doctors appointment tomorrow. I'm not sure if he will get shots or not, but if he does it will be a rough day. He is usually a really good eater, he loves squash and zucchini (but not the baby food kind), hot dogs, chicken, tomato sauce (that was all he would eat for two days once), and especially his biter biscuits (little cookies for teething).

I would like to update this once per week, but you know how that goes. There isn't a whole lot going on around here, but I'll try really hard anyway and I'll also try to post pictures regularly.
